Bloody NS men
I was reading the newspaper today. The article on the GST rebate package caught my eye and i thought it was pretty thought-provoking. Especially the statment that NS men will get $100 more. I find this statment very disturbing and I feel very dismayed.
What gives them this benefit? The fact that they've have "sacrificed" 2 years of their prime? I admit that girls will never understand what it feels like to be the lowest form of creature in army and the tough training they underwent. But one do have to admit that in army, they get to learn things. For instance, most guys picked up their IT and interpersonal skills during this period of time. As for those were "takan", that just makes them stronger - both physically and mentally. Yes, a few innocent lives are lost too.
BUT, women do contribute to the nation too. They give birth to children and children are the future of a nation. Just because there are no top female politcal leaders to voice out our inner thoughts, things don't get done? People take it for granted that the duty of a woman is to give birth. If that's the convectional take on that matter, isn't it the duty of a man to protect his country as well? Then, why do they deserve the extra benefit and recognition? Army is 2 years. Child birth is 9 months. Just 3 kids and you will easily "outdone" the males' service. 9 months of hardship. It's no easy work either. Throughout this period of time, both you and the child are at risk. Any slight fall will cause a miscarriage. Which will endanger a woman's life as well. And the pain which she suffers during the delivery process is akin to the pain a burnt victim suffers up to a certain extent. Why aren't the efforts of the women in the society recognised?
Men always claim that women don't understand them. Just how much do they understand women then?
